think about so,goodnight moon and goodnight you, when you're all that I The peak of dawn was just beginning to flood into the she cat's den when her pale green eyes were forced open. The calico's heart was racing and when she awoke from whatever had spooked her, her moss was scattered everywhere and fur was bristled in every direction. She couldn't remember what exactly had got her so ruffled, but it had been enough to leave her feeling panicked and wide awake. Dawncloud pulled herself back onto her haunches and began to lap at her ruffled fur with smooth strokes. Once her fur was somewhat decent, though still sticking up around her flank, she checked her herb supplies and decided it would be a good morning to go and get some dock and dandelions before the clan woke up.
Arching her back in a stretch, she pushed her rump in the air with a small yawn before padding out of her den and into the forest. The sun was barely peaking over the horizon, telling the medicine cat that she still had an hour or so before the dawn patrol would be getting up and checking the borders. Another yawn shook her body as she began to scout through the forest, looking for the familiar patch where the bright yellow weeds would grow. New-leaf was the time when most of the herbs would grow fresh batches. If she got them early, such as now, there was a good chance that they would already begin growing back, and be plentiful again before next leaf-bare.
As she turned around a large oak, she caught sight of the yellow plant and unsheathed her claws to neatly dig around it's surface before bending her head to nip gently at the plant, careful to leave enough to root behind so that it would continue to grow. Once she had a mouthful, she gave her fur another quick shake, scattering bits of moss that remained in her pelt around her. She then raised her tail and continued through the forest to find some dock leaves. | • 356 words • "I'm speaking."• Onyx• yayy! |

Cedarclaw woke up in a cheery mood as he did nearly every morning. The sounds of his fellow warriors stirring was what brought him out of his slumber, and he nodded politely at each of them as they each stretched and left, one by one. He, too, stretched his long legs out of front of him, yawning as he did. He was thankful he wasn't chosen for the dawn patrol this morning; as necessary as he knew they were, he could hardly stand the monotony. He'd rather be doing something interesting, like hunting.
Hunting was a good idea, he decided. He enjoyed the way the weather was turning out, and decided he would take a look around the forest. He liked the way the newleaf sun struck the newborn leaves on the trees, and created that amazing shade of green.
He quickly made his way through the camp and into the hushed forest, and caught the semi-familiar scent of Dawncloud, the medicine cat. He was puzzled for a moment, then laughed at himself as he realized, Where else would she get her herbs? He shook his head, amused at himself for somehow having retained the assumption that medicine cats never left the camp. She has to go to those meetings once a moon anyway, flea brain. Hey, maybe she would like some help gathering herbs?
He followed her scent, past a group of dandelions pulled freshly from the group. He cocked his head sideways as he stared at them, then decided it must be her doing. He continued tracking her scent, and found her not much farther past the dandelions. He cleared his throat, suddenly a bit shy. "Good morning, Dawncloud. I noticed you were out, and figured you must be gathering herbs, being this far out of camp, and thought maybe you'd like some help?"

think about so,goodnight moon and goodnight you, when you're all that I Her smell was muffled by the dandelions that were pressed up against her nose, blocking out pretty much everything except their tangy and sweet taste. A frustrated sneeze flew from her mouth and she just managed to keep from spewing the plants everywhere. But, eventually, she picked up the scent of burdock again, and continued her way through the forest, tracking as best she could through the herbs. Suddenly, a voice rose from her behind her and she turned to see Cedarclaw, one of the warriors from her clan, coming up beside her. She dipped her head in a silent greeting, internally irritated that she hadn't been able to catch his scent through her bundle of dandelions.
"Good morning, Cedarclaw. You are out early." She murmured softly, surprised that her voice was actually audible when she had so many things crammed into her jaw. "Sure, if you have nothing else to be doing, I would love the help." Dawncloud meowed, flicking her tail gratefully against the toms shoulder. She paused her pace and split the dandelion pile into two, gently pawing one half to Cedarclaw before picking up her half and continuing on her way, though she let her pace slack so that she could fall in step with the brown tabby. Her jaws remained slightly parted, just enough so that she could scent the air, but not drop her bundle. She kept herself silent, but her ears were twitching in case the tom beside her wanted to talk. But, for now, she would wait for him to make his move and keep focusing on her task at hand. | • 295 words • "I'm speaking."• Onyx• sorry for the horrible post, im a little distracted >.< |

Cedarclaw's mouth twitched into a smile at her sneeze, and he wanted to make a friendly joke, but lacked the words. It was a curious site to see her with her mouth so full of dandelions. It was a site he couldn't say he'd seen before, but then again, he was lucky enough not to frequent the medicine cat den. "I couldn't bear to waste such a beautiful morning sitting around in camp!" He admitted. "I was coming out to hunt, but I'd consider helping you equally as important." He smiled amiably, watching her curiously as she split the dandelion pile in two and nudged half to him. He hadn't exactly thought about what helping her would entail, and hadn't quite pictured himself carrying around flowers. He didn't mind though, and quickly but gently scooped them up in his jaw. They smelled better than he expected, at least. He took off when she did, easily keeping pace with her. He took a moment to enjoy the forest around him; mornings were his favorite time of day, and mornings in Newleaf were even better. Birds were chirping, butterflies were begging to be chased, and the forest was just teeming with life that didn't seem to be present in Leafbare. "So wha aw we wooking fo' 'ow?" He blinked in surprise, wondering how she so easily managed to talk with the dandelions in her mouth. He'd tried to ask what they were looking for now; she certainly made it look easy! And she even had a bigger pile than the one I'm carrying. He attempted to laugh at the way he sounded, but made a gargling noise instead. He shook his head, and hoped he wasn't doing too much damage to the plants between his teeth.

think about so,goodnight moon and goodnight you, when you're all that I The young medicine cat enjoyed being around the other tom. He wasn't only kind, but he had a very good sense of humor, which allowed her to get down from her high chair of medicine cat and be a bit more like the young cat she truly was. The walk in silence was anything but awkward, it was actually rather comfortable and the she cat found herself enjoying the toms company. Usually, she was always out on her own to get herbs and if she wasn't out and about, she was back at camp keeping track of her clan mates. It felt amazing to be out with another member of the clan on her paws, keeping her company. Being a medicine cat was a lonely road, but she knew that it needed to be done, and she was just going to have to get used to it.
Dawncloud let out a small muffle of laughter around her flowers when Cedarclaw tried to speak around his plants and then chirped out some strange sound she could only assume was supposed to be a laugh. As she continued on her short journey, she allowed her fur to gently brush against the toms, obviously enjoying the company of another cat as she continued on. He had asked a few moments before what they were looking for and she gave him pretty much and instant reply. "Dock." She meowed, before realizing that he probably had no idea what the plant looked like. Mentally swatting herself, she proceeded to explain before he was able to give her the confused glance that she always got from the other cats.
"Dock is a very large leafed-plant that has a very tangy smell to it. I would mention that it has a tangy taste as well, but I'm not sure we need one of our warriors running around licking leaves." She added with a good-natured flick of her tail and a purr of amusement. It really was good to be out with another cat and it had easily picked up the medicine cat's spirits. | •364 words • "I'm speaking."• Onyx• notes: |

The tabby and white tom felt the she-cats fur brush against his, and let out a small purr. He was glad to find the medicine cat to be a pleasant companion, and was growing ever more thankful that he decided to help her rather than hunt. He was always glad to get to know his clan mates better, and he was even more glad to actually enjoy another's company. Especially one that matched his sense of humor and friendliness so well. He inwardly hoped that he would find a friend in Dawncloud. More and more cats were becoming grumpy and becoming of the opinion that he was annoying, when he was simply trying to spread his good humor around.
He glanced at her and smiled, but he was sure it came out more like a grimace with his mouth so full of flowers. He pictured the plant she described, and tried to find it in the forest around him. He saw several large leafy plants, and couldn't smell a thing over the dandelions. He laughed again at the mental image of a warrior taste testing plants to figure out which was which. He was definitely glad that wasn't his job!
He saw a large green plant with long leaves stemming up and curving outward. He stopped at it, looking at it then Dawncloud. He sniffed, but couldn't for the life of him smell anything other than dandelion. "'Is ohn?" He tried to ask, meaning, This one?. The plant looked sort of like the one Dawncloud described, but then again could have been a completely different plant. The juice of the dandelion was beginning to leak in his mouth, and he realized he was gripping them too tight. He loosed his grip, and looked apologetically at the medicine cat.

think about so,goodnight moon and goodnight you, when you're all that I The she cat padded alongside the tabby tom, only stopping when he mumbled out something she could only assume was 'this one?.' Her ears twitched and she set down her plants to go and see what he was speaking of. She noticed that the leaves were in fact, dock, but a very small portion of them that weren't ready to be harvested yet. "You learn fast. Are you sure you weren't meant to be a medicine cat apprentice?" She purred, her ear giving a friendly flick before she noticed his apologetic gaze and the juice from the dandelions leaking out of his jaws. She let out a purr of laughter and padded up to the tom and opened her jaws to take his bundle. If he gave it to her, she picked up her own and set them down under the blossoming dock plant and scratching a bit of dirt over them. She would come back for them later.
With that settled, she turned her gaze back to Cedarclaw and gave him a playful smirk. "You mentioned hunting?" The calico purred before flicking the toms nose with her tail and leaping into a quick bound, turning her stride to the forest to where they could actually do some hunting. | •227 words • "I'm speaking."• Onyx• sorry it's so short! i didn't want to start the hunting without cedarclaw's reply. |

The tom glanced at his paws, a bit shy under her praise he was sure he hadn't earned. He simply followed her directions, though he could imagine there were more long leafed green plants than there were mice in the forest. He purred at the she-cat though, happy to have helped in even a small way, and gladly gave her his bundle of dandelions. He was sure that if he would have held on to them any longer they would have been damaged beyond use, and he would have felt terrible. To his relief, he could speak clearly again now that he was rid of those long stemmed plants. "I just got lucky." He mewed, still purring. He watched her save the plants near the dock, and wondered what they would do next.
The friendly she-cat had flicked him with her tail and ran off before he could reply, and he gladly gave chase, excitement running through his bones. Now I can show her something I'm actually good at. He felt the need to impress her, and desperately hoped he could actually catch something to show off. He was typically a decent hunter, but had "off days" more often than the average cat. He prayed to StarClan this wasn't one of those days!
In the back of his mind, he marveled at the idea that she could hunt. He hadn't known that was part of her training. Or maybe that was an instinct cats were born with? He didn't think so; he was terrible at hunting when he began his apprenticeship, and seriously doubted that he would be any good if he hadn't been mentored. He made a mental note to ask her, if I could just catch up with her! He managed to maintain a distance of a couple fox-lengths behind her, and struggled to close that distance.

think about so,goodnight moon and goodnight you, when you're all that I Dawncloud loved the feeling of the way the new-leaf wind ripped through her fur as she bounded through the forest. It was an amazing feeling, really. Not very often did the she cat get out of camp with another cat, let alone be able to have her own, mini hunting patrol! She ran for what felt like miles, and though she knew she could go much further, she slowed her pace to a mild walk as they approached the center of the forest. At this point, her steps were light and smooth, careful not to crunch any leaves or twigs under her paws. Now that the world was pretty much quiet, she could hear the gentle padding of tiny paws over the dirt. Turning her green eyes to playfully meet Cedarclaw's, she gave her tail a small twitch, letting him know that she had found her target and was ready to get into the hunt.
She gave him the freedom to go where ever he pleased, and she turned her attention to a rather plump vole that was studying the ground ahead of her. The calico dropped into a hunters crouch, her tail straight out behind her as though not to disturb the leaves or anything else on the ground that could spook her prey. Steadily, she pushed forward, her paws sliding over the ground like some kind of dance, per say. Her gaze remained glued to her target until she was within two tail lengths. The voles head shot up, and it looked around - its petrified gaze meeting that of Dawncloud's. But, before it even had time to let out a shriek of fear, the calico threw herself forward, knocking the plump creature off balance and killing it with a swift bite to the back of it's neck.
She forced herself to hold back a mew of triumph and picked up her kill, padding off quietly to catch up with the tabby tom. | • 342 words • "I'm speaking."•Onyx• notes: |

Cedarclaw followed the medicine cat until she had chosen her spot, and paused before splitting up to find his own prey. He cocked his head and watched as she put the prey in her sights, and kept her full concentration on it as she crouched. He was taken in by the care and precision she took in her moves, and though he wanted to study her further, he turned in the opposite direction to find his own prey-kill. His mind was on her, though, as he silently moved through the bushes just a little way away from the she-cat. She had him very impressed.
Not far away, he caught the scent of two different prey. A thrush to his left, and a rabbit farther in front. He paused to consider which to hunt, and it didn't take long for him to continue forward. Birds were never my strong suit, He thought to himself, smiling wryly. He crept up behind the rabbit, plump already from the generous newleaf, and lowered himself to the ground. He was careful not to let the rabbit smell him as he inched forward slowly, pouncing at the last moment. The kill was swift, and he clenched the rabbit between his jaws as he padded back towards the area he'd last seen Dawncloud. He was pleased with the kill, and held his head high as he made his way through the forest, silently hoping he would impress the medicine cat as much as she'd managed to effortlessly impress him.
