[Echowhisper] Echowhisper sighed as she walked along the border. She didn't mind the routine border patrols, really -- she just enjoyed hunting patrols better. But whatever patrol the deputy put her on, she didn't complain, especially since the deputy was usually nice enough to accommodate her hunting patrol preference.
Dusk Patrol wasn't so bad, anyway. Echowhisper looked up at the darkening sky, wondering when StarClan would start dancing across their stage. She snorted to herself; where had that poetic thought come from?
She glanced around at the rest of the patrol, her mind telling her to start paying more attention lest she miss out on something crucial.

Cedarclaw
Cedarclaw kept pace with the other patrol members, staying alert for unfamiliar scents as they went and refreshing the scent markers every so often. The sun was drifting ever closer to the horizon, taking the heat with it as it went. He shivered quickly, muttering to himself about how StarClan should have given him a longer coat. He understood why the border patrols were necessary in theory, but nothing interesting had happened in moons, and they were boring.
He glanced around quickly, looking for a way to amuse himself. He heard his clan mate, Echowhisper, snort faintly to herself, and decided to crack a joke. "What, Echowhisper, did you get dirt up your nose?" He called out, trying to be funny. He wouldn't normally joke with a cat he didn't know very well, but he knew Echowhisper to be friendly in the camp, and hoped she wouldn't take his joke the wrong way.

[Echowhisper] Echowhisper glanced back at Cedarclaw when he had called out to her and her whiskers twitched in amusement.
"More like your stench," she teased in return. She gazed back around the expanse of territory around them, her ears swiveling as they listened for anything that may signal that something wasn't right. Fortunately, everything seemed fine and dandy.
Boring.
Not that Echowhisper wanted any trouble, of course. She supposed it was better to be bored than invite disaster to a patrol.
"Everything well with everyone else?" she asked, figuring that it wouldn't hurt to be sure everyone had the same sense of tranquility as she had.

Cedarclaw laughed suddenly, pleasantly surprised. He wasn't expecting her to come back with a clever retort, and he grinned widely at her. "Good one." He acknowledged, still smiling. He appreciated other cats with a sense of humor; many didn't realize when he was joking, and thought he was insulting them. He always felt bad, but then again, it wasn't his fault they weren't appreciative of good humor.
He stopped for a moment, nose twitching. What's that? He took a couple more sniffs, and realized it was just an old squirrel scent that had caught his attention. He sighed, realizing at the same time that he shouldn't be disappointed. It's not that he wished another Clan would challenge them for territory or that they would come upon a fox, but these patrols could go on for forever, and he wished something would break up the monotony.

[Petalfrost] The small beauty quickened her pace dramatically to catch up with the others. She often forgot she was the deputy... She just hoped that the patrol wouldn't apologize for leaving her behind, she just hadn't been paying attention. Her ice-blue eyes lightened in the sunlight, and she inhaled sharply, drinking in and recognising all the scents. Echowhisper, Cedarclaw and the other members of the patrol.
She had changed her mind about not coming along, she needed some fresh air. She had been cooped up in the camp because of all the new responsiblities... Organising patrols had been exhausting at first. She stifled a sigh at the memory, she had never felt so weary. She paused as they stopped at a border.
