The young tom awoke to the light of early dawn pooling into his den. He let out an irritated huff as though to let the sun know he wasn't ready to get up just yet. Hawkpaw stretched his tiny jaws in a massive yawn, wrapping his tail so that it rested on his nose and covered his eyes. But, the dawn was unforgiving and no matter how much he tried to go back to sleep, it was no use. A grunt of disapproval and the apprentice rolled his haunches into a sitting position and ran his tongue over his brown, Bengal pelt. After he had cleared all the moss from his body, he gave his tail a few impatient flicks and exited the apprentices den.
As he entered the clearing, he watched as the other cats went about their business. Patrols were being set up and the young tom was eager to catch in on one. But, he couldn't see the leader or deputy for the moment, so that meant that he was going to have to dig up the patience to wait for one of them to come by. Another grunt of his own disapproval and he lowered his haunches once more, sitting down by the main clearing so that he wouldn't be missed when more patrols were set up. For now, he would just have to suck it up and wait until the others woke up or returned from the dawn patrol. That was just great.
"I am speaking."

| mousepaw,
they/them/theirs | mousepaw had been awake before dawn- they always were. they never could sleep along, no matter how hard they tried. not when the potential to be put on patrols was out there. today however, the apprentice was passed on being choosen for a early morning patrol.
they huffed when the deputy lead the group of cats out of camp, not giving the apprentice even the slightest recognition. mousepaw grumbled under their breath, falling back on their haunches. the camp was still, silent. they could just leave, if they wanted too...but what fun was it to go out alone?
mousepaw perked at the sound of rustling from inside the apprentices den. aha! hawkpaw was awake. they never talked to hawkpaw much, but that could change.
mousepaw watched the tom with a mischieveous twinkle in their eyes. they remained put until they were sure hawkpaw was staying in camp, waiting for something to do.
mousepaw grinned, hopping to their paws. "good morning, hawkpaw." |

The Bengal tom's tail flicked impatiently as he stared out to where the patrols had disappeared. His claws were extended and kneading into the ground in rhythmical movements. His irritation was not the least bit hidden. He might as well of allowed all of his fur to bristle and throw out a few lashes of his claws. But, he managed to contain that dramatic approach and stuck to simply attacking the dirt. His ears perked up and twitched to the side as a voice spoke his name. The brown tom turned to see Mousepaw approaching and meowing out a greeting. Hawkpaw flicked in ear in acknowledgement and let out a gruff "Good morning." to the other cat.
Hawkpaw really wasn't close with any of the cats in his clan except for his mentor, Nightpelt. However, Mousepaw was okay, even though they had only spoken a few times. For a few more moments, the tom allowed them to sit in silence, before allowing his neck fur to bristle. "Lemme guess, they left you out of the morning patrols, too?" He spat, though his anger was not toward the other apprentice, but the whole situation in general.
"I am speaking."

| mousepaw,
they/them/theirs | the small apprentice grumbled along side their clanmate, not phased by his anger. it was annoying not being choosen for morning patrols, especially since some of the cats choosen hated waking up before dawn. "yeah," mousepaw flicked their tail. "but you know-" the undersized cat turned their gaze towards the bengal tom, grinning. "this is just a opportunity to go out on our own." mousepaw was on their paws now, crouched in a playful manner. their paws itched for adventure. a mischieveous gleam flickered in their eyes. "what's the use in just sitting around all morning, right, Hawkpaw?" wowww idk what to write sorry vixen. |

you'll think of me take your space and take your reasons, but Hawkpaw was so focused on his anger, that once again, he missed that the other cat was speaking up. But, when Mousepaw dropped into a playful crouch and the brown tom caught what he was saying, a satisfied purr rang in Hawkpaw's throat. "Smart idea, Mousepaw!" He purred happily, laying his tail over the cat's shoulders before he rose to his own paws. "Let's go, quietly!" The tom hissed under his breath before creeping past Mousepaw in a hunters crouch, his gaze swinging cautiously around the camp to make sure no one was watching them. When he made sure that no one was looking at them, he flicked his tail tip to indicate for the other cat to follow him. Hawkpaw then led the way out of the camp and toward the woods that had the tall trees. It would be a great place to practice hunting! They could bring back a ton of prey, then they would have to be on the next patrol!
For a little longer, Hawkpaw remained in front of the other cat, waiting until they were clear of the camp and out of hearing distance before he allowed his pace to slack and he fell in step with Mousepaw. "We could try hunting in these woods." He meowed matter-of-factually, his tail tip still twitching as he thought about his plan. Not one muscle in his body indicated that he was doing anything wrong - in fact, he thought he was doing Starlingstar a favor. His ears twitched at the sound of small scuffling and he rose his tail straight in the air to let Mousepaw know that he had heard something. "You want to take this?" He hissed quietly, flicking his ear toward where the sound was and then waited for the other cat's response. | • 316 words• "I'm speaking."• jay• notes: |

[Nightpelt] The light of dawn had started to spill through the leaves as Nightpelt pawed through the clan's entrance with a jawful of prey, that was stretching his jaw wide enough that it was starting to put a kink in the left side. Picking up pace, the dark tom made his way quickly to the kill-pile where he relieved himself of his catches. Leaning down, Nightpelt stretched with a wide yawn that caused his fangs to glint in the early light and managed to undo the kink he felt. Doing a few more stretches, he turned toward the warrior den but paused at seeing his apprentice and Mousepaw. What are those two up to now? A grin flashed across his maw, if those two were up to something than it was Nightpelt's right to keep an eye on them. Especially since a quick look around showed no signs of another cat up this early to keep an eye out on the apprentices. Maneuvering himself back to the kill-pile, the tom positioned himself so he appeared to be busy but had at least one eye on the two. And just in time as Hawkpaw's gaze swept across the camp before the two slunk away. Rising to his paws, Nightpelt followed the apprentices out of the camp at a safe distance and on silent paws "Mousepaw's lucky to have their mentor on patrol already but not you Hawkpaw."

Cavernstripe padded sleepily into the camp, his large paws dragging against the floor until he plopped his hind down a little way off of from his clan-mates. Stifling a yawn, the grey tom turned his amber gaze onto the cats that had gathered in the clearing. He recognized the two apprentices quickly, and gave a quiet snort as he heard their hushed voices discussing between themselves. Probably up to no good. The bulky tom thought silently to himself as he watched the two get to their paws and leave. But, was surprised to see Nightpelt also sneak out after them. Perhaps he was in on their secret plan? Probably not. Someone had to keep an eye on the two, and Cavernstripe wasn't going to be the one dancing after the young cats. Now alone in the camp clearing, the long-haired tabby let his shoulders sag as he relaxed a little. Enjoying the sun beating down on his pelt, Cavernstripe pushed his forelegs forward while stretching the muscles in his shoulders. The large tom flexed his claws in the satisfying feeling, while his tail tip curled in silent delight. The warrior then straightened back up, and sat contently under the warmth of the sun. His clear amber eyes gave away his love for the increasingly sunny days of Newleaf. Maybe he could go out for a hunt? He always did enjoy his own company more than anyone else's. Besides, then he wouldn't feel any sort of reason for competition between another warrior. After getting to his paws, the tom gave his shoulders a quick lick before padding out into the forest. However, he soon found that he had let his paws absentmindedly guide him down the root that his three clan-mates had taken. He considered turning away back to his hunting, but he was already on the trail now... and he was rather curious too. He cleared his throat, then trekked down the trail that was left by Nightpelt's, Mousep@cryaw's and Hawkpaw's scent. jay vixen. kiyuo

| mousepaw,
they/them/theirs | mousepaw froze mid crouch at nightpelts voice. their ears flicked at the sound of hurried scuffling- the prey had escaped. the least he could have done was wait till they caught it! mousepaw fell back on their haunches, dipping their head in respect to the warrior. irritated, the small apprentice flicked the tip of their tail against the ground. they couldn't go out on patrol and now they're in trouble for hunting! isn't that better than sitting around camp doing nothing? "sorry, nightpelt." mousepaw mumbled, lifting their head to meet the older warriors gaze. "we just- we didn't want to sit around camp doing nothing!" they paused for a moment, shuffling their paws on the ground. "but i did almost catch something, though." |
